The food was probably my highlight!
Wow Japanese cuisine is simple, healthy and sooo delicious! On our first workaday we got so spoiled by home cooked vegetarian Japanese meals every day, with love, taste and lots of fun (:
Although I still can't read Kanji, it's beautiful to look at. So impressive to read little signs with different meanings like this. Almost everything was written in japanese but it was also possible to communicate with hands and feet.
The leaves started to turn orange, the weather was cozy and the air fresh.
We experienced big cities and the countryside of Japan. To see all the traditions they have and to watch the way they live was really inspiring for us.
How I ended up in Japan:
"IKIGAI" - This was one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Japan. I was very fascinated and inspired by this book about the Japanese Art of living. So I decided to experience it
by my self and see it with my own eyes.
On "Ziggy Alberts" Conzert in Austria I asked a good friend of mine, Flo, who you see a lot on these photos, if he wants to join me, he was super stoked about this idea, so we did it
(:
from Tokio to Shizuoka
At first we started our journey in Tokio and stayed three nights at "Citan", a beautiful Backpacker Hostel with a nice cafe are and Restaurant. The Staff was super cool and kind and the cafe was amazing!
We wandered around the city and we were surprised how quite it actually is. Everyone is respectful, reserved and neat. It almost feels you have to whisper on the street haha
Another fact we were surprised about is that you will find no dustbins. Japanese take their trash with them and still it stays clean everywhere. Also public toilets are very clean! Japanese not only neat, they are also suuuuper friendly and helpful. Whenever you feel lost, they got you! No matter if you are looking confused at the train-station trying to read desperately all these hieroglyphics or if your are just wanted to ask for some recommendations, they are always happy to help you out (:
One of our favorites was the "Meji-Schrein". Its a big Park areal with a beautiful and stunning Tempel in the middle of the city. You go from skyscrapers to massiv trees where you can find some balance in nature.
Vegetarian Food
My experience was surprisingly good ! For me it was very easy to find vegetarian food in Tokio and Japan in general. You may have to use google translator to really make sure you get no fish and meat, but beside this its easy to find restaurants and snacks which are fully vegetarian and healthy as well (:
For example I ate a lot of Sea weed with tofu (you find this also in 7eleven) or Onigiri (Rice balls), a lot of Udon noodle soup (my favorite!) or just some cooked vegetables with tofu or fried noodles and more.
After Tokio we went to the Woods. The area is called Shizuoka. It has beautiful landscape, you are surrounded by nature, hills and forrest.
We stayed in a tent and did little day trip hikes, which was beautiful! Definitely worth to visit. You will see lots of traditional houses, lakes, rivers and lots of deers and birds (:
Because we wanted to experience the real Japan, meet locals and learn more about the culture, we decided to do Work&Travel and we found the cutes couple to live with them, but about our little adventure there you will read more in my next blog post, so stay tuned (:
