Hey då & welcome to my Blog (:
So let me tell you how I spent last autumn in Sweden (:
As many of you know I was traveling to Sweden in September 2023 and did my first official Work away on this cuuuute Eco Farm at a place called "Sunnemo".
It's a small village on the countryside, 1h away from Karlstad and close to Hagfors. This area of Sweden is called Värmland.
I always wanted to experience volunteering in different countries and meet people all over the world, so I did.
I found this place through "Workaway" and the communication was really easy, uncomplicated and everything worked out very well.
The owner, Johan, is a super nice and energetic guy who loves to host workawayers who help to create his dream about an Eco Village and his own eco Farm with all kinds of Veggies and Veggies. We even had some ducks and chickens.
It was truly a lot of fun to harvest 2398 potatoes, 57 pumpkins, a lot of carrots, kale, tomatoes and more, feeding the animals, collecting apples from our trees, building fences and barns.
The newest project of Johan and my favorite place to be, was the new Café on the Farm. They built everything by them selves from scratch. So impressive and beautiful! It's a place made of love, good energy and big passion for cakes, Fika and cafe !
Freshly picked apples from our tree in front of our house. We spent a lot of time making apple cake, apple sauce or just snacking it (:
I loved that everything you need grows in your own garden and is just one step away.
We lived all together in this cute Swedish house. At that time we were six Workawayers staying there. We had a big kitchen where we had breakfast all together, a cozy living room for movie nights or jamming sessions and a Fireplace where we had our organic hot cacao every morning. So lovely!
Maybe cinnamon buns, called "Kanelbullar" were one of the biggest reasons why I came to Sweden haha (:
We baked our own traditional cinnamon buns in the Café and it was the best thing to smell in the morning and snack a warm bite in-between.
The Café
We sold everything that grew in our garden. Carrots, Kale, Cucumber, Tomatoes, Pumpkins, eggs and more.
Our German Baker, Lisa, also made the best sourdough bread and buns I've ever had.
Lisa also made all of the delicious and different cakes for the cafe! We had Carrot cake, Almond cake, chocolate cake and the most favorite of all was the blåbär cheesecake (blueberry cheesecake) Some of them were also vegan and gluten-free (:
We also had a lot of flowers to pick and decorate our cakes, the cafe or just to give it to people to make them happy (:
The colorful and wild Eco garden was a luxury to have and beautiful to walk through.
This Café was my favorite place to be. On day one Johan asked me if I want to learn to be a Barista and serve cafe to the guests. For me this was a dream came true.
I love to be creative in any way especially with baking and food, so this was my favorite work at this cute little Farm.
The language was also not a barrier cause the Swedens speak fluently and perfectly English. But obviously I also fell in love with the language so I learned some phrases in Swedish and after some
weeks I could communicate a little bit with the guests as well (:
My duties in the Cafe:
We started at 10am to prepare everything for the day. So in the morning we also baked cakes, fresh bread and buns. We also sold burgers, fries and sandwiches and prepped everything for that too. Igor and Malva, one of my best friends now, were the chefs in the cafe and made delicious food!
We lighted up candles, cleaned the cafe machine and put on nice music, sang and danced to it (:
After 5pm we sat together, played guitar and card games, ate cake and just enjoyed the time together. It was a beautiful, calm and simple life in this magical cafe and I loved every minute there.
lingonberries
Sometimes we went together on a nice walk to pick lingonberries and make jam out of it. They grow eeeverywhere! The whole forrest is full of them. No wonder they have so many delicious things made out of Lingonberries like jam, sauces, cakes and more (:
To spent autumn in Sweden was one of the most beautiful things I've ever discovered. I fell in love with this calm and pretty nature, the culture, the kind people the language and obviously the food, specially the pastries. (:
I am more than grateful to had the opportunity to travel to Sweden and find some new friends and to volunteer through Workaway. It's one of the best ways to travel on a budget, meet nice people who have a similar philosophy like you and learn so many new things you would probably never do (:
It was a wonderful time I had and Sweden will always have my heart (:
If you liked this post you should definitely check out my next Post about winter and Christmastime in Sweden (:
This was even more magical and looked like a Christmasy picture book, with baking, decorating and something very special ... you will see (:
